The Best DRUGSTORE + CRUELTY FREE Makeup Products! (My Updated Makeup Collection)

It was almost a year ago now that I posted my first beauty related post on this blog! It just so happens that that post was my drug store makeup collection. Over the last year I decided to switch to only using cruelty free makeup products and my knowledge of makeup has also increased in that time, so my current makeup collection is almost all new products! Every single one of the products I will be sharing with you are products I LOVE and use often if not daily. I am so excited to be sharing my makeup collection with you today, hope you enjoy!

Foundation: Wet n Wild Photo Focus
Concealer: NYX HD Concealer
Color Correcting Concealer: NYX Color Correction Concealer

  • I have used a few different foundations in the past year, but this one has to be my favorite. And here's a secret, I just got it this week! I'm already in love with it. It has a demi matte finish, so I don't feel too matte or too dewy, and it has very good medium to heavy coverage and matches my skin perfectly.
  • The NYX concealer comes in a ton of shades and does so well at covering my blemishes as well as brightening my under eye. The only bummer about it is that it runs out very quickly.
  • The color correction concealer is something I don't use a lot, but when I do I'm always happy with it. I use the green for pimple redness and the yellow and peach for under eye circles and it always leaves my skin even toned and glowing.

Face Primer: Wet n Wild Coverall Primer
Eye Primer: ELF
Setting Spray: ELF Mist & Set

  • I recently started using this primer after only ever using the ELF primers (which I still love) and I am so happy with it. It smooths my skin and it keeps my foundation on for a long time. It's also very inexpensive and comes with a lot of product.
  • This ELF eye primer is the only one I've ever used and it has always worked really well for me. It is very inexpensive so I'm happy with it. I'm not 100% in love with it and I probably will be giving other eye primers a try, but if you are looking for a solid inexpensive eye primer, I recommend this one.
  • I have only ever used this setting spray and I'm happy with it. Like the eye primer, I do think I will give other setting sprays a try, but as of now I am happy with what I'm getting for the price.

ELF Powder Contour Pallet
ELF Creme Contour Pallet
Wet n Wild Contouring Pallet
ELF Blush and Bronzing Powder

  • When I first started contouring last year, I fell in love with the L'Oreal pallet. When I decided to go cruelty free, it was a struggle finding a new contouring pallet that I liked as much as I liked that one. I first tried the Wet n Wild pallet, but the contour was too light and warm toned for me. Other than that, it is an amazing quality pallet and I highly recommend it if you are warmer toned. From the Wet n Wild pallet, I mostly use the highlight shade as under eye setting powder. I'm actually almost out of it and I'm so sad about it. When I finally tried the ELF contouring pallets, I fell in love. The darkest shade in the powder contour kit is perfect for me and I use it every day. I haven't used the creme pallet very much, but from what I can tell it is amazing as well.
  • The ELF Blush and Bronzing powder is the same one I've been using since last year. I really like the shimmer in the bronzer and blush and I use it a lot when it gets warmer out!

ELF Baked Highlighter in Moonlight Pearls
Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in Be My Highlight
Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights
Wet n Wild MegaGlo Illuminating Pallet

  • The ELF highlighter is my favorite to use. If applied normally, it adds a nice pretty shimmer and if applied with a wet brush, it is WOW! The secret to this baked highlighter is that there is a film on top that you have to scrape off before you can see amazing results.
  • The Essence pure nude highlighter is so subtle and pretty. It is almost the same color as my skin, so it just adds the tiniest most natural looking glow and I love it.
  • This Revolution highlighter packs a punch. It is definitely extremely pigmented and it's for when you want one of those blinding highlights.
  • Honestly, this Wet n Wild highlighting pallet kind of disappointed me. The lightest colors are really pretty but the other two are just too dark to be a highlighter for me. They are also more shear than pigmented. However, sometimes you just want a more shear highlight and I do like that it came with a good shade range. It's good for travel!

Arbonne Blush in Ballet
Milani Powder Blush in Blossomtime Rose

  • I don't know if Arbonne counts as a drug store brand, but I did want to share this because it has been my favorite blush for about two years now. It is such a pretty natural color and it's matte which I love.
  • I couldn't resist trying this Milani rose blush. Prettiest packaging EVER! This is also a very pretty color, but you have to make sure to apply with a light hand because it is very pigmented.

Mascara: NYX Double Stacked

  • I never thought I would find a mascara better than the manga eyes one I used to use, but this one blew me away! The mascara on it's only lengthens your lashes to a crazy extent and then adding a layer of fibers gives you the appearance of wearing falsies. I am so happy with this mascara!

Liquid Eyeliner: NYX Collection Noir
Gel Eyeliner: ELF Creme Eyeliner
Pencil Eyeliner: Milani Glitter Easyliner in Emerald Stone

  • I went through a phase where I wanted to try gel liner, so I gave this ELF one a try. I liked it a lot and I think I would continue to use it if I got a finer tip brush. However, I ended up switching back to liquid liner and decided to give this NYX liner a try. I like the color and texture and it stays on for so long, but my brush got clumpy very easily and it's really hard to get a precise line because of it, so I think I'll continue to try new liquid liners.
  • I've had this Milani emerald eyeliner for forever and I just recently started using it again. It is a really good color to use with my green eyes. I also use the smudging sponge on the other end to apply eyeshadow colors to my lower lash line. Sometimes I use bronze, sometimes purple, but I really like the look of smokey under eye mascara.

Eyebrows: ELF Brow Pencil

  • For my eyebrows, I usually use my Anastasia Dipbrow. However, sometimes if I want a lighter look or an easier application, I'll use this ELF brow pencil. It works very well and the spooly brush on the end blends it very naturally. It is an amazing product, especially for the price. Definitely on par with any other similar drug store product for a fraction of the cost!

ELF Mini Book
Essence How To Make Nude Eyes Pallet

  • This ELF mini book has a good mix of neutral colors in a wide range of shades, both shimmery and matte. I use this a lot for crease shades. The Essence pallet has six shades that are still very neutral but they are also all shimmery, so I tend to wear them when I want a more dramatic smokey eye.

Wet n Wild Color Icon in Petal Pusher
ELF Prism Eyeshadow in Sunset

  • This Wet n Wild pallet in Petal Pusher is so pretty. I got it when I wanted to start wearing color. Purple is my favorite color and it also goes well with green eyes, so this pallet was perfect. It wasn't as pigmented as I wanted it to be, but I'm still very happy with the colors I got for the price. The ELF prism eyeshadows are beautiful! I don't even know how else to describe them. I got the sunset pallet and the colors definitely live up to the name. I highly recommend this pallet.

Hard Candy Glitteratzi Gel Pallet

  • I got this for New Years and was not disappointed. I wore mine over powder eyeshadow and set it with a little bit more powder and it stayed all night. However, I have noticed that if you don't wear it with powder and set it, it clumps up and gets everywhere. So beware of that!

Liquid Lipstick:
Milani Amore Matte Lip Cream in Precious, Devotion, and Metallic Mattely In Love
NYX Liquid Suede in Tea & Cookies, Life's A Beach, and Subversive Socialite
NYX Lip Lingerie in Lace Detail

  • The past year I have worn nothing but matte liquid lipstick. I am obsessed. These are the best drug store matte liquid lipsticks that I have found. Milani is my absolute favorite, but NYX is a close second. Definitely give them a try.

Lip Pencils:
ELF Chubby Stick in Berry Sorbet

  • I don't wear this very often because, like I said, I've been wearing exclusively liquid lipsticks. But, I do like these chubby sticks from ELF. They are very pretty and inexpensive and the bottom pops off into a sharpener. It's really handy! I recommend trying this if you're interested in this kind of lipstick.

Beauty Sponge: Real Techniques
Contour Brush: Wet n Wild
Kabuki Brush: ELF
Highlight Brush: Forever 21
Eyelash Curler: Unknown
Silver Eyeshadow Brushes: Sonia Kashuk
Black Eyeshadow Brushes: ELF

  • Wet n Wild and ELF brushes are inexpensive and great quality synthetic brushes. Sonia Kashuk uses real animal hair, but obtains it in a way that has been deemed cruelty free. I got these brushes a long time ago, they were actually a gift and the first makeup brushes I ever owned. I don't think I will buy from Sonia Kashuk in the future just because I think synthetic brushes are the only way to be actually cruelty free, in my opinion. However, that decision is up to everyone individually. I also just recently started using a beauty blender and I am obsessed. I'm so happy I finally switched over from using my fingers!

Well, this turned out to be a long post! I didn't intend for it to be so long, but I wanted to make sure to be as detailed and honest as possible in my descriptions of my makeup products. Hopefully this was helpful for some of you and you got some ideas of products that interest you!

If you are interested in seeing how I wear my makeup, my daily makeup routine or a look with any of the specific products, let me know in the comments! I would love to hear your input!

REVIEW | Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick! (Swatches on arm + lips)

Here I am, back with another matte lip cream post! I swear to you, this is the only kind of lipstick I wear anymore. I tried to wear some of my old regular lipsticks recently and it didn't look or feel right. Matte lipsticks have been my obsession for almost a year now. If you haven't seen my drugstore matte lip cream post yet, I highly recommend checking it out. I worked really hard on that post and tried a lot of different matte lip creams before I decided on the best ones.

Today, I am super excited to be reviewing Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks. I fell in love with these liquid lipsticks before they even came out. Back in high school, my friend Hannah (hi, Hannah!) showed me the swatches on Jeffree Star's instagram before he had even released them. We were both amazed by how a liquid lipstick could possibly dry fully matte with such astounding pigment! This was back before matte lip creams had really made an appearance to the general public. Anyway, about three or so years later, I was lucky enough to get four JS lipsticks for Christmas from my cousin, Kara. I was so excited to try them and get my first impressions, as well as to wear them over a few weeks to get a good feel for them. It's been over a month since I got them, so I feel like I have a good feel on how they work. This will be a very honest review, so keep reading!

The colors I have are Masochist, Redrum, Designer Blood, and Dominatrix. These are all very red toned shades, except for Dominatrix, which is a true brown. I mostly wear red shades, so my cousin picked out the perfect selection. She also got me two lip scrubs, in Gingerbread and Hot Cocoa. They work really well but aren't too different from any other lip scrub I've tried.

To start off, I want to say that I have a lot that I love about these lipsticks, but also a lot that I'm not very fond of. My first impressions didn't live up to my expectations, which was kind of a bummer. However, I still made sure to give them a fair chance and I wore them a good amount over the last month to see how they would wear and how I could improve the parts I didn't love. Here's what I've got so far:

  • They have amazing pigment and the colors are absolutely beautiful
  • They are incredibly long lasting (and even hard to get off!)
  • They are vegan and cruelty free
  • They dry matte very quickly and don't show fine lines

  • They never fully dry down, they are always a bit tacky without feeling actually sticky
  • They are not transfer proof at all. The color will end up all over your drink or food or whoever you're kissing.
  • They do feather during long wear
  • The brush applicator is awful. This is my biggest con. It is almost impossible to accentuate your cupid's bow without getting it all over your face (and once it's on your face, it's almost impossible to get off).

Okay, now that you know my general pros and cons, let's get into the specific shades!

Masochist is a beautiful red toned pink. The website describes it as a "dark pink," but for me it is very bright as opposed to dark. I wish it showed up darker on my lips, I think I would wear it a lot more if it did. However, this will be a great color for spring and summer and I'm excited to get a lot of wear out of it during that time!

Redrum is definitely my favorite out of all of them. I am a sucker for a good solid red lipstick, and that is what this is. I honestly can't describe it anymore than that. It is a classic bright red, and if red can be neutral, this is a neutral red. I could wear this shade with everything I own.

Designer Blood

Designer Blood was a limited edition shade around the holidays. It is said to be the popular Unicorn Blood shade with added gold in it for a shine. This shade really doesn't turn out looking like the shade in the bottle. It dries a very beautiful burgundy color. This is probably my second favorite shade, it is guaranteed to get me lots of compliments when I wear it!

Dominatrix is a true brown. It is dark and has beautiful pigment. For anyone looking for a true brown without any other tones in it, this is the shade for you! I personally don't know if I can pull it off and I don't think I'll wear it much now that winter is over, but maybe next fall I'll be able to wear it more.

Here's some arm swatches. As you can see, the colors are amazing and they dry beautifully. Even with the cons, I'm still very happy with these and I wear them a good amount.

I hope this review was helpful for some of you! It was fun to get all my thoughts on these in one place. A lot of the reviews I had looked up on the JS lipsticks were either not very helpful or didn't seem very honest. I wanted to be completely real in this post.

Let me know if you've ever tried Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks and if so, which ones are your favorite!

UPDATE | New Year 2017

Well, Happy New Year! It feels like forever since I last posted. I did take over a month off from blogging, just because I needed to gather my thoughts and get my life together. But it is the new year and I am back! I am so excited for 2017 and all that it has to offer.

This month I will celebrate one year of blogging! I can't believe I've been doing this for so long. A lot has changed since I first started blogging and there is a lot of changes still to come. I'm excited to grow with you. Stay tuned for more posts related to this.

As far as an update goes, this last month I have mostly just been busy with the holidays. I was back home in Las Vegas for two weeks over Christmas and I celebrated New Years Eve in Northern Utah. The holidays were very different for me this year than they have been the past few years, which was a little weird. But change is something I am learning to embrace! Here's some holiday pictures.

I loved celebrating such a special season with everyone I love, my best friends and my family. My main love language is gifts, so I loved picking out special gifts for everyone and receiving gifts that people had chosen especially for me. I feel so lucky to feel so loved all the time.

Earlier in December, I threw a party for Taylor's 20th birthday. I'll share just a few pictures from that. I originally wanted to create a whole post about it, but I wasn't very happy with how the pictures turned out because I was just enjoying the night instead of stressing about photos. It was roaring 20s themed because he loves the 20s and he turned 20! Taylor is such a fun guy, so I really wanted the party to be true to him.

We had a champagne tower with sparkling cider, candy cigarettes and cigars, feather boas, a mugshot wall for pictures, and a record player. I think everyone had a good time, especially Taylor, which is always the most important thing to me for parties.

2016 was a rough year for me. I had things happen that I never expected. My whole life got flipped upside down and all my perfect plans were shattered. However, I am grateful. Something that I thought of as the worst thing to ever happen to me turned out to be one of the greatest things to happen to me. I was forced to grow and change, it was hard but so worth it. I have never felt more love surrounding me than I did in 2016. I learned important lessons about true love and friendship that I will carry with me forever.

I am so excited for 2017. I am excited to experience life and to keep changing. Growth is so important! I am so happy with where life has taken me, even if it has been completely unexpected and even if it did break my heart over and over again along the way.

Thanks for letting me be so candid with you on this blog. I try to be very honest about my life without sharing anything that doesn't need to be shared. I felt like this needed to be shared. Thank you to anyone who read my blog posts in 2016 and I hope you'll be joining me on this wild ride that is 2017!

What are you most excited for in 2017? What is your New Years Resolution? Let me know in the comments!

HALLOWEEN COSTUME 2016 | Stranger Things + The Lego Movie DIY Group/Couple Costume Inspiration

So, I know this is a super late Halloween post, but I wanted to make sure to post mine and my friends' Halloween costumes from this year. Halloween week turned out to be crazy and busy, so I didn't have time to post this any sooner, but here I am, as excited as ever to share these costumes with you on here!

My friends and I did a group Stranger Things costume. Stranger Things is a new show on Netflix, it is pretty popular and a very good watch, I would highly recommend it. If you haven't seen it, these costumes might not make sense to you, but I'll try to explain the best I can without spoiling it!

My friends Christine and Spencer dressed as Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington, who are in high school in the show. Nancy begins as a slightly nerdy girl who takes school very seriously and she turns into a very strong character in the show. Steve is the popular jock character who takes an interest in Nancy despite her not being popular. He turns into a strong character in his own right. Taylor and I dressed as Eleven and Mike Wheeler, who is Nancy's younger brother. They are middle school age in the show. Eleven begins the show by escaping from some kind of medical institution and Mike and his friends find her in the woods and take her in.

Here are some individual shots of our costumes. These obviously aren't perfect recreations of the characters, but it is our take on them. The show takes place in the 80s, so that was a really fun vibe to go with. All of the clothing we're wearing was either bought at a thrift store or was already in our closets! For Eleven's costume, you want a pink baby doll type dress with a white peter pan collar, an oversized navy blue jacket, and high socks with tennis shoes. I already have blonde hair, so I just curled it a bit, but you might want a blonde wig to recreate the look of Eleven's blonde wig. As the finishing touch, you need to put a little bit of fake blood underneath your nose because El is always getting random nosebleeds. For Mike's costume, Taylor got this striped collared shirt and tan coat from the thrift store. He also has dark hair, so that's a bonus for the costume! For Steve's costume, you need a long sleeved rugby style shirt, tucked into some tan pants. Steve's hair is also a huge part of his character, he has the high slicked back look from the 80s. We tried to recreate that with Spencer's hair. For Nancy's costume, we chose her most iconic outfit, which was a plaid collared shirt underneath a dark blue sweater with a maroon coat over it. Her hair was in a ponytail for this scene, but you could also go with her signature hairstyle which is wavy with the sides pinned back. These were really easy and fun costumes.

I had to share Christine and Spencer's other costume from this year! Spencer's favorite movie is The Lego Movie, so they dressed as Emmet and WyldStyle. This was such a fun and easy costume for them. Emmet's costume is basically a construction worker's costume with a blue worker shirt underneath. Wyldstyle wears black pants with a black zip up hoodie with blue and pink graphic designs on it that Christine copied with duct tape. She also has blue and pink streaks in her hair with a high side ponytail.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope you enjoyed your Halloween! What did you dress as this year? Let me know in the comments below!

FIVE Ways To Style Plaid This Fall + Magic Hour At The Pumpkin Patch!

In my opinion, going to a pumpkin patch is a necessary part of Fall. Whether you go with your family, on a date, or with friends, it is always fun to pick your pumpkin at an actual patch. Plus, around Halloween time, a lot of pumpkin patches have extra activities in addition to the pumpkins. In the past, I've been to pumpkin patches that had small carnival rides and snacks. This year, the one I went to was more humble and natural, having just a few farm animals, a hay ride, and a corn maze. It was so cute and the best part... free!

My friends and I just happened to all wear plaid... okay, okay, I might have forced them to so that I could caption our group picture "plaid shirt days" from one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs. I couldn't resist! Plus, plaid is necessary when you're going to a pumpkin patch. I really like how each of us styled plaid in a way that reflects our personal style. Spencer is a big fan of layering, so he layered his flannel over a green zip up hoodie that really brought out his eyes, and under that he wore a simple dark shirt. Christine wore a zip up hoodie that is a mix of grey and plaid, with a maroon shirt and shoes. We always tell Christine that maroon is her spirit color. Blakely went with a simple black tank top and a contrasting maroon and white flannel tied around her waist. Of course, I went with my favorite pair of high waisted jeans with rips in the knees and I tied my flannel to show a little midriff. If you notice, I wore a pair of brown booties, and I turned out to be the only one of my friends not wearing tennis shoes. Typical. Taylor's look is a simple one you could find him wearing on any given day. Dark pants and a neutral graphic t shirt with a flannel layered on top. I love this group's style, it is so fun to see how everyone styles similar pieces in different ways.

We were at this pumpkin patch during magic hour, right before the sun set. It made these pictures turn out so dreamy. I think everyone could agree that the best part of this pumpkin patch was all the farm animals. We saw goats, baby cows, alpacas, sheep, and a beautiful horse. The animals put everyone in such a good mood, we were all giggling and running around like five year olds. That kind of childlike wonder never goes away.

I hope you enjoyed this post about my fun night at the pumpkin patch with my great friends. Every time we do these little photo shoots, I am blown away all over again by how photogenic my friends are. And, as always, by how talented my friend Christine is with a camera. I say this every time, but she truly does capture the most genuine moments of us being our true selves. I love having these pictures to look back on.

Check back for more fall themed posts in the next few weeks. I have a few ideas up my sleeve, but we'll see if they actually get done! Plus, the holidays are coming up and I want to create some cool posts for that.
